Beals Preserve Bird Walk May 14, 2011
Jeff Collins of Mass Audubon led an early rising group for a most interesting bird walk at Beals Preserve on May 14, 2011. Jeff is truly phenomenal in spotting and identifying birds. If you ever have a chance to go on a bird walk with him, don't miss it. Some of the birds seen in addition to those in the photos below included a Northern Flicker, Eastern Kingbird, Canada Goose, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Tree Swallow, American Crow, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, Eastern Bluebird, Hermit Thrush, Gray Catbird, Nothern Mockingbird, Blue-winged Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Ovenbird, Common Yellowthroat, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Common Grackle, Mourning Dove, Baltimore Oriole, House Sparrow, and, of course, an American Robin. A Great Blue Heron and a Bobolink were seen in surrounding fields. Shown below are a few of the birds seen along with some of the birders. The pictures were taken by Linda Hubley and used courtesy of Southborough News. The top row shows a Barn Swallow (left) and a Cedar Waxwing (right). The second row shows a Green Heron (left) and a Scarlet Tanager (right). Some of the participants are shown in the bottom row of pictures. |
